Overview

Accessing treatment abroad with reimbursement involves administrative steps. Our role is to guide you through these steps in a clear and structured way.

Step 1: Eligibility check

You answer a short set of questions about:

• The procedure you need
• Whether you are on a waiting list
• Whether you can travel
• Which documents you already have

We then indicate the most likely reimbursement pathway.

Step 2: Document preparation

Each scheme requires specific documents. Common examples include:

• GP referral or consultant letter
• Invoice from the provider
• Proof of payment
• Discharge summary after treatment

We provide a checklist tailored to your situation.

Step 3: Treatment and reimbursement

Once treatment is completed, reimbursement claims are submitted directly to the relevant authority. We provide guidance on what to submit and in what order.

Important notes

• You usually pay the provider upfront and claim reimbursement afterwards
• Reimbursement decisions are made by the HSE or scheme administrator
